Escape II, or In or out of the tunnel?, is a painting that may be carrying two opposite meanings.
The first is that a woman is about to get out of her tunnel which can be seen as a dark period of feelings, difficult life choices or economic hardship.
The scene would represent the moment of salvation through the conquest of the top, the conquer of a place in the sun or a safe place in which to unwind.
It is possible, however, to recognize the exact opposite.
The woman is falling and tries in every way to cling with the nails and teeth to the walls of the tunnel to avoid sinking.
It represents the moment of decline, of disappointment after a bitter discovery when the ground collapses under her feet or of an unexpected and imperative randomness that inevitably attracts her towards the bottom of the cliff.
This is a painting in which one can easily identify oneself. The identification with the protagonist can take place in both the phases described above which alternate in ordinary life and this is the reason why this painting remains perennially current, poised between one and the other option driven by the momentarily emotional situation.

Escape II, ovvero In or out of the tunnel?, è un dipinto che può assumere due significati opposti.
Il primo vede la donna apprestarsi a risalire dal suo tunnel che può essere un periodo oscuro di sentimenti o di difficili scelte di vita o ancora di ristrettezze economiche. E questo rappresenterebbe la salvezza attraverso la conquista della vetta, di un posto al sole, di un posto sicuro nel quale ristorarsi.
È possibile, tuttavia, riconoscere l’esatto contrario.
La donna sta precipitando e cerca in tutti i modi di aggrapparsi con le unghie e coi denti alle pareti del tunnel per evitare di sprofondare.
Rappresenta il momento del declino, della delusione dopo un’amara scoperta quando il terreno frana sotto i suoi piedi o di un’inaspettata e inderogabile casualità che inevitabilmente la attira verso il fondo dello strapiombo.
Questo è un dipinto nel quale ci si può facilmente immedesimare. L’identificazione con la protagonista può avvenire in entrambe le fasi sopra descritte che normalmente si alternano nella vita quotidiana di ciascuno e per questo il dipinto rimane perennemente attuale, in bilico tra l’una e l’altra opzione, suscitata dalla situazione emotiva momentanea.
